Multilingual Learners

all students learn

Students receive support throughout the school day to build their English language skills while continuing to learn grade-level content. A dedicated ENL teacher provides targeted instruction and works alongside classroom teachers to support language development. Language development is integrated into all classes, ensuring students can access and engage in their learning. Instruction focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening to support overall language growth.

Students receive language support in ways that best meet their individual needs.

  • Placement: A student’s level of support is based on their individual needs and English language proficiency, and is adjusted as they grow.
  • Integrated ENL: Students receive support within their core classes, where ENL teachers work alongside classroom teachers to build language skills during daily instruction.
  • Stand-Alone ENL: Students participate in small-group instruction focused on developing English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Students develop the language skills they need to succeed in all classes. Instruction focuses on building confidence and helping students fully participate in their learning.

  • Build academic vocabulary and language used across subjects
  • Strengthen reading comprehension and writing skills
  • Develop speaking and listening skills for classroom participation
  • Learn strategies to understand and succeed in all subject areas

Supporting multilingual learners is a shared effort. Our staff and families work together to ensure students build strong English language skills while feeling supported and included in all aspects of school.

  • Teachers: Support language development in all classes through daily instruction and classroom activities.
  • ENL Teachers: Provide targeted language instruction and additional support based on each student’s needs.
  • Cohort Team: Regularly reviews student progress and adjusts supports to ensure continued growth.
  • Family Communication: Families receive regular updates and are encouraged to partner with the school to support their child’s learning.
